I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
I spent those three years living with a boy
Sometimes the world makes me annoyed
I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
Now I’m unemployed
Dreamin’ big, dreaming strong
Dreams of careers to last all life long
I didn’t think (that) I’d be singing this song
But I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
Sometimes the world makes me annoyed
I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
Now I’m unemployed¬
Wouldn’t it be great to find someone
To find your person during week one
Not so great when he says you’re done
We did a film degree and now we’re unemployed
Finish the degree and I’ve also lost my boy
You might get why I get annoyed
That I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
Now I’m unemployed
We all thought it would be like La La Land
Destined for greatness according to someone’s plan
Reality is never as grand
You do a film degree and then you’re unemployed
I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
Sometimes the world makes me annoyed
I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
Now I’m unemployed¬
We all progressed with each film we made
Although sometimes team spirit decayed
Did it occur to them maybe I just wanted to get a good grade?
Anyway
Anyway!
I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
I dunno, I thought it would fill some void
Go do something that you enjoy
So I did a film degree and now I’m unemployed
Now I’m unemployed
Now I’m unemployed
Now I’m unemployed
I did a film degree
Please employ me

I looked out across
The river today,
Saw a city in the fog and an old church tower
Where the seagulls play,
I saw the sad shire horses walking home
In the sodium light
And a pale sun shrinks from the empty streets
And the day falls into night
All this time,
The river flowed
Endlessly to the sea.
Our teachers told us
The Romans built this place
They built a wall and a temple
At an edge of the empire garrison town
They lived and they died,
they prayed to their gods
But the stone gods did not make a sound
And their empire crumbled, ‘til all that was left
Were the stones the workmen found
All this time,
The river flowed
Endlessly to the sea.
If I had my way,
I’d take a boat from the river
And I’d bury the old man, bury him at sea
Well, nothing’s ever changed round here
Not in ten thousand years I fear
Same bend in the river, where the tide slows down
And the seagulls circle this dirty old town
So I ask myself why the Hell would I stay?
Just churches and pubs where ye drink or ye pray
And the sky’s still the same old battleship grey
If only the pubs stayed open all day
All this time,
The river flowed
In the falling light of a northern sun
Well I had my way,
I took a boat from the river
Cos men go crazy in congregations
They only get better one by one
One by one
One by one by one
One by one
I looked out across the river today.

Do They Know?
02:30
|
|||
First time together since we split
With your family in your comfort zone
And I can’t help but think it
Do they know?
Do they know?
In English your sister speaks to me
Says that you’re her favourite sibling
But while she speaks I’m wondering
Does she know?
Do they know?
The servers round the table
They must know I’m not meant to be there
Deep down I know I shouldn’t really care
But do they know?
Do they know?
The dog runs over to you and yaps
She runs to your father and wags
She runs to me and looks
Does she know?
Do they know?
You and I sit together
Last time we were nestled on the leather
We speak
We smile
Feeling our way as friends this style
We get up to go to our separate ways
We hug and it's not awkward or strained
Does it matter if they know?
We know (x4)

Poor little Baby Bear, his parents in separate beds
Not together for love but to protect the Baby instead
That was our lunchtime topic for tech week during a show
Overanalysing stories written long ago
The history of Goldilocks is a mystery
The history of Goldilocks isn’t clear to me
Spend a week with six people and then you will see
You’ll discuss the strangest things I can guarantee
Like the Three Bears’ history
Just one day on set is years in friendship time
Ample opportunities to complain and bitch and whine
Cabin fevered actors paired with a sleepless crew
Strange comments and activities are bound to ensue
The history of Goldilocks is a mystery
The history of Goldilocks isn’t clear to me
Spend a week with six people and then you will see
You’ll discuss the strangest things I can guarantee
Like the Three Bears’ history
We laugh at chairs in the dark
And we scream at bugs in the car
And we sing songs we shouldn’t sing
People wouldn’t understand a thing
Like the history of Goldilocks, it’s a mystery
The history of Goldilocks isn’t clear to me
Spend a week with six people and then you will see
You’ll discuss the strangest things I can guarantee
The history of Goldilocks is a mystery
The history of Goldilocks isn’t clear to me
Spend a week with six people and then you will see
You’ll discuss the strangest things I can guarantee
Like the Three Bears’ history.

The mermaid swims toward the light above
Bursting the surface into the sun
But this time it's not the sun that lights her world
It's a unicorn,
Horn and hair.
Even as the unicorn towers above the mermaid
Her hair glows silver
And beautiful in the sunlight
The water trapping the heat and warmth so bright
And through her the warmth is born
Through the unicorn,
The unicorn.
And of course the mermaid wants to stand on the grass
Stand up tall
To make her fins unfurl to feet
To reach up
And shake the shore and waves from her body
And share the world with the unicorn
The unicorn
Hair and horn
But the ocean is in the way
In the way
Kept apart
By foam and salty spray
What the mermaid hopes can never be
The mermaid and the unicorn
Separated by the sea
